Often referred to as "Black Emancipation Day" and celebrated as "Juneteenth," June 19, 1865, is the day when the news of freedom from slavery finally reached the state of Texas, nearly two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863. Rooted in B.T. Roberts' unfailing commitment to the abolition of slavery, we honor and celebrate the freedom and emancipation that took place on June 19, 1865. We continue to pray for unity and equity in our nation.
